Doug Varner is the Director of Engineering for the Industrial Software Team and has been with The Lakeland Companies since 1985. Doug’s experience with grain and hazard monitoring systems has broadened since joining Lakeland, but his first taste of these areas of expertise was realized during six years working in the Cargill Grain Research Labs. Today, Doug’s professional passions revolve around new products and systems designs and turning random thoughts and un-expressed needs into realities. Around the office, Doug is known for his hard work, but more so for his ability to come up with unique and customized solutions through ideation. Doug has a wonderful imagination that he takes to a whole new level by mixing in his engineering background; the result? “imagineering.” This term was popularized by Walt Disney back in the 1950’s, but today resonates well with people like Doug and many of Lakeland’s process design leaders. Even though Doug has already been with Lakeland for quite some time, it seems like a whole world of opportunity still lies ahead for him. With an eye to the future, Doug will continue to use his differently unique perspectives to bring about fresh solutions. The best is yet to come.
